How Dementia Care Works
Our Complex Care Nurse, Josie, leads the assessment process and meets with you and your family to complete a thorough home assessment. She ensures all members of your care team have the required skills and training to deliver your loved one’s care safely and effectively.
Your care plan documents all aspects of your loved one’s dementia care needs in detail and is reviewed regularly or updated earlier if required. Every carer involved in your dementia care is fully trained and competency assessed by Josie on a regular basis.
Areas we cover
With offices in both Stirling and Glasgow, we’re ideally placed to support clients across Stirlingshire, Clackmannanshire and East Dunbartonshire.
If you’re based outwith these areas, our capacity may be limited, so we may not be able to offer support.
How do I pay for Dementia Care?
You can arrange for Hamill Homecare to provide Dementia Care either:
Privately: You will be responsible for all costs
Using SDS Option 2: You are given an assessed budget by the Council and have the freedom to choose your own care company. You may need to pay a ‘top up’ to meet our costs.
What happens next?
Following your initial enquiry and once we have a basic understanding of your needs, our care co-ordinator will visit your home to complete a thorough assessment. This assessment forms the basis of your personalised care plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of dementia do you support?
We support individuals living with all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia.
Can you help with challenging behaviours associated with dementia?
Yes. Our carers are trained to respond to behaviours such as agitation, repetition, and confusion with calm and skill, using approaches that reassure rather than restrict.
Do you offer continuity of care with the same carers?
Wherever possible, we ensure your loved one is supported by a consistent team of carers who know them well and understand their needs and preferences.
How are your staff trained in dementia care?
All our complex care staff are specially trained and regularly assessed by our in-house Complex Care Nurse, Josie. They receive comprehensive training in the specific procedures and interventions required for each client’s needs.
Is dementia care at home safe?
For many people, home is the safest and most supportive environment. Our assessments include a thorough review of the home, and we can advise on any changes that would improve safety.
Can you provide dementia care in the evenings and overnight?
Yes. We offer flexible care across daytime, evening, and overnight hours to suit your loved one’s needs.
Can I use Self-Directed Support to fund dementia care?
Yes. If you have been assessed as eligible for a care budget by your local Council, you can choose Hamill Homecare as your provider under SDS Option 2. You may need to contribute a top up to meet our costs.
